Partners in Justice

Bancroft is an active participant in the "Partners in Justice" coalition, a national initiative coordinated by The Arc of New Jersey. This alliance is a collaboration of criminal justice, civil agencies and advocates working to enhance equal justice for people with developmental disabilities.

About Bancroft

Bancroft is a leading provider of programs and supports for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism and acquired brain injuries. Our services include special education, vocational training and supported employment, structured day programs, campus and community living programs, short-term behavioral stabilization services for children, in-home and outpatient services.

A private, nonprofit organization, Bancroft was founded in Haddonfield, N.J., in 1883. Over the years, we have grown to become the fifth-largest private employer in Camden County. We currently serve more than 1,300 children and adults annually in settings throughout Camden, Burlington, Gloucester, Ocean, Middlesex and Salem counties in New Jersey, and in Delaware. In October 2009, the organization began operating a Philadelphia, Pa., program—The Walker Center at Bancroft—which serves adults.

For over 125 years, Bancroft has been making a difference in the lives of many. The organization is well known for helping people with disabilities achieve fulfilling lives while improving their function, activity and participation in society. Bancroft’s reputation for excellence is based on its commitment to providing a spectrum of individualized services, treating each person with respect and dignity, and providing services in an encouraging and supportive environment.

Five Things Bancroft Believes In

Highlights from Bancroft's Philosophy of Support

The Five Things Bancroft Believes In are:

  1. supports that are person-centered and outcomes-based;
  2. involvement of families and others in the circle of support;
  3. treatment approaches that are scientifically proven to be effective;
  4. encouragement of relationships and experiences; and
  5. opportunities for lifelong learning and fulfillment.

It is through the efforts of our strong and dedicated staff, self-advocates and families that those we serve will be valued and respected members of our world, making our mission a reality.

Professional/Staff Training

At Bancroft, we understand that programs can only be as good as the staff who work directly with the persons we serve. That is why we employ some of the top practitioners in our field — highly trained, highly skilled, caring individuals who are deeply dedicated to helping people with disabilities and their families.

As some of the country’s most highly sought professionals, Bancroft staff members are frequently invited to speak at state, regional and national conferences, and their work is regularly published.

Bancroft professionals also undergo extensive, ongoing training to keep them up-to-date with the most current, best practices of treatment and care.

Non-discrimination policy

Bancroft, a New Jersey nonprofit corporation, admits children and adults of any race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin to all programs, activities, rights and privileges generally provided to people served by the organization.
